Simplicity in Mind

Caught in the story

Helping you to thrive in any situation.

Hi Reader,

Jack’s convinced the board thinks he’s not up to it.

Nobody has said a word. He’s built the case himself – a glance in a meeting, an email that came back short, an agenda item that moved.

It feels like information. It’s thinking.

Most leaders I work with don’t need more confidence. They need to notice they’re reading a script they wrote at 3am.

The board’s view of Jack hasn’t changed. Jack’s state of mind has changed his view of the board.

Jenny Gaitelband said something on the podcast that stayed with me: “Because of the story I was living in… my actions made sense.”

Listen here: “Befriending reality: hope in hard times”

I explore the same idea in The Understanding Field Manual (The Creation): thought creates a version of the world and then quietly hides the fact that it participated in creating it.
