Helping you to thrive in any situation.
Hi Reader,
All was well.
The promotion. The plan. The five-year view.
Then the rug went.
(Anyone who knows the rhyme knows Jack falls down.)
Here’s the part I haven’t said in this series: I was Jack.
Army officer. Amazon. Financial services. Good at all of it – and burning through myself to stay that way. Six years ago I had a stroke.
What I learned on the way back up wasn’t a technique. It was that the fog, the 3am thinking, the carrying it all – none of it was coming from the job. It was coming from how I was using my mind.
That’s the work I do now, with leaders in finance and consulting who look fine from the outside.
That’s where Jack and Jill end up on Wednesday – the last sketch in the series.
Maya Angelou put it beautifully: “You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.”
When my marriage ended, I felt the weight of it deeply. I could not change what had happened. I could influence what happened next. I share more in The Wellbeing Field Manual (The Agency):
Aaron Turner and I explored this in “Change from out of the blue”.
